As part of the 2021 Bergen Summer Research School, eight groups spent 1.5 hours working on mapping out the main interlinkages between previously identified Sustainable Development Goals. Session participants continued further developing and using the maps throughout the remainder of the summer school.

As part of the Sustainable Innovation course CET201 at the University of Bergen, bachelor students had a “lightening” systems mapping session. During this session, students received a 15 minute introduction to systems mapping, then worked for 45 minutes in teams, followed by a debrief. Students continued working on their systems maps in teams after the session.

As part of the Arqus Winter School 2021, seven groups in seven different cities spent two hours working on mapping out the main processes driving important climate risks in their cities and the main consequences of these risks. Session participants continued working a bit on their systems maps in teams after the session and used the maps as a basis for a communication exercise.

Obesity prevention personas: here

In the System Dynamics modeling process course at the University of Bergen, first-year master students in System Dynamics get exposed to Group Model Building for the first time.

In 2020, due to the Covid pandemic, we facilitated a systems mapping session online. Students assumed the roles of facilitator, modeler or stakeholder and they had to think systematically about the processes underlying obesity prevention. As students had not been exposed to the obesity prevention issue before, we provided them with descriptions of various stakeholder personas such as high school students, high school principals, farmers, policy makers, and parents. Each group then developed a map from a specific stakeholder persona perspective.

As part of the Client-based modeling project course at the University of Bergen, second-year master students in System Dynamics started their project work with an online systems mapping session. The purpose of this session was to brainstorm about the problem given to them by the client (how Bergen can become fossil free by 2030 in the transportation sector). Based on this initial brainstorming session, students then developed a data collection strategy for filling information and data gaps.
